You predict the first sentence on a page selected by the spectator!
Beginner Book Test
Method
First, you will need a deck of cards and a book.
Step 1- Get a book and flip to a page with a three digit number(like page 101, 306 etc.) and write down the first sentence of that page on a piece of paper. Place the prediction in an envelope.
Note: This should be done before the performance without the spectators knowledge.
Step2- Hand the spectator the book and tell them to examine it. Then hand the spectator the deck of cards and tell them to examine those as well. Hand the spectator the envelope with the sentence on it and tell them to hold on to it.
Step3- Force three cards on the spectator. These three cards will be the page number they turn to. For example, let's say you force the three of diamonds, the nine of hearts, and the four of spades, the spec will turn to page 394.
Step4- Have them open the book to that page and leave it open and have everyone look at the first sentence. Then instruct the spectator to open the envelope and read what it says.
Both of the sentences will match perfectly!

| foylefullback 18th Jan 07 | i think thsi strick is quite good but i have seen better. U can sometimes add to the effect by having double card already placed on the specified page number | |
| magicalmaster 18th Jan 07 | I like it. I fooled people but i didnt use write a prediction. I told them the page number and the word and they were surprised. I thought i would never find a good book test. | |
| aixelsid 18th Jan 07 | for people asking these questions there is a reason why it's beginner book test, not advanced amazing book tests. if you're a beginner it's a good effect. | |
| yosagi 18th Jan 07 | I like it because there are many other things one could do with this | |
| gredini 22nd Jan 07 | I think beginners is perfect for this but if your just starting to learn it isn't bad. | |
| blueflame 25th Jan 07 | its alright, except people will wonder why they cant just flip 2 a page | |
| aixelsid 31st Jan 07 | the technical work of the trick is the classic force, keep in mind lay people don't know forces nor do they know what to expect and it is a beginner effect people. | |
| a5ado 1st Feb 07 | great, an explanaiton on your method of forcing three cards, in a specific order, might help though | |
| lilyaux 1st Feb 07 | This is clever!! It will definately work on people who don't know what "force" is. | |
| Chip 6th Feb 07 | This a great beginner effect. i like the use of the classic force combined with an every day object. | |
| magic1993 7th Feb 07 | this is pretty good to do on someone like a teacher the only prob if u go to my school is that cards are not allowed lol | |
| panjaitan 7th Feb 07 | simple trick but the biggest problem is...we have to find the trick to force the three cards appeared by the spectator. I think it would be the key to perform this trick | |
| patdunachie 12th Feb 07 | millerwood, what is the force, could you post it? i thought this was really good. someone should come up with a version that can be done with a borrowed book | |
| magikman666 19th Feb 07 | this trick is ok but it will require a lot of practice on the three card force . | |
| Phate 21st Feb 07 | If you're good at forcing cards on someone, you can do this trick without any problems. Nice thinking! 4/5 | |
| ejblue3121 24th Feb 07 | I think this is kinda bad cuss would if they mix the cards around and go to the wrong page. | |
| Snakeman 24th Feb 07 | A great trick that baffles if you are an expert at forcing cards. I think it would be even more convincing if you used multiple variations of forces to make the events seem even more random. | |
| Yexo 1st Mar 07 | I think this might work pretty well actually. Great explanation. Good trick overall 4/5 Congratulations! | |
| TGMTim 3rd Mar 07 | i like it, easy, dident have to practice, good reactions, its probably bout a 85% | |
| cragglecat 4th Mar 07 | I actually quite like this but I'm not an experienced magician. I think you could force the three cards quite simply using the same approach as is used in a trick called 'the sevens' in royal road to card magic. Or would this be getting too convoluted? Or do people not know what the hell I'm talking about?! | |
| leachim 7th Mar 07 | The abillity to force three cards in a row does not match access level 1 in my opinion. Some suggestions for practicing forces with this trick until you get skills to force three cards at once: force one card and ask the spectator to square or cube the number in the card selected; use a thinner book and force two cards. | |
| jkersey 20th Mar 07 | It's a great concept. You also have the opportunity to perform as a mentalism effect. Force the three cards (no prediction) and then "read" the spectator's mind as the concentrate on the sentence. | |
| brunobely 27th Mar 07 | I think it's a good trick, but it's quite difficult for the begginers to force the exactly 3 cards, when is a whole deck =) | |
| MandG 28th Mar 07 | good trick with a good effect. I like it, and it takes little setup. Can perform many places | |
| arfnog12 30th Mar 07 | that was pretty cool and maybe you could figure out a way to add the numbers of the cards together and it will always be the same it wouldnt make it so | |
| MasterMenalist 2nd Apr 07 | I think that this a pretty cool trick, thanks for teaching it. | |
| ddustin 7th Apr 07 | I like this trick, but I'm going to try to make a better variation, its a good idea but its kinda predictable. | |
| vandal66 10th Apr 07 | For those who say this is too easy to figure out, the key is just to play it up. The better acting, the better the result, especially with this trick. | |
| Tim123 11th Apr 07 | This is a really good idea expecialy when you use three diffferent forces. don't Act amazed when it works and act a little, showmanship helps them belive. | |
| magianfreak99 12th Apr 07 | this needs a good force to work well, or the audience will get suspicious.this trick is a good amatur book test. | |
| physicseditor14 14th Apr 07 | this is a trick that seems kinda weird but once u do it, it is amazing | |
| Far 18th Apr 07 | this was the first book test that i know how to do that is actually pretty good. | |
| PicklePhantom 26th Apr 07 | This isn't TOO BAD of a Book Test, but it could have been a bit better. Good Job anyways! :D 3/5 | |
| jokersk8rfl 1st May 07 | its good but you could get caught | |
| Xeada 4th May 07 | act like a phychic and "read it with your mind" good trick, very yummy | |
| magic2cool 8th May 07 | good, but I like using 2 digit page # and the third card is the line which you have copyed ustead of the 1st line. Add more effect by memorizing the line and read it aloud with them | |
| ddustin 25th May 07 | If you then 6 in 1 force the 3 cards in a certain order that would be so cool | |
| lalamagic 20th Jun 07 | You did a very good job explaining the trick. A good variation would be to tear out the page that they are going to flip to and have it in the envelope. | |
| CardMagic234 7th Jul 07 | WOAH!!! i showed it in school and its awesome!!! it fooled everyone! | |
| ryanhotman007 7th Jul 07 | I know how to do the affect in all, but i would rename it. This affect is not really for beginer magicians. Beginer magicians dont even know what a force is!!! | |
| freshmaker123 28th Aug 07 | I like it and it can be a great effect for a trick in study hall =P just remember to force the cards in the right order or u might make an embarrasing mistake =P | |
| TommyTossaloties 30th Oct 07 | also, if you are not that good with mulitple forces, you can force two cards instead of three and still end up on a 3 digit numbered page. say you force a 10 and a 5 for example. and viola, you're on page 105. and if you force a king and a 7 for example...you're on page 137. | |
| howxmuchxpain 18th May 08 | This sounds like a nice effect, but I do it differently. I set up a 14/15 deck, where every two cards equal 14 or 15, and have them cut to a card. They look at the first two cards, and they turn to page 14 or 15. It's quite easy to tell what page they are on, because they will look at either the right or left page. Then you can just go from there. ^^ | |
| kenor 1st Aug 08 | I like to force one court card in the very beginning and then I ask the spectator if all three cards have a number on them - he says no of course and so I have to force fourth card. This helps to convince the spectator that all three cards were a genuine selections. | |
| eaglesfanjn922 10th Oct 08 | decent effect, but if they examine the deck it takes more skill to force. just some constructive criticism | |
| Gazea2 3rd Oct 09 | OK effect. Sometimes though they find out that you are forcing them the cards. | |
| Hardman 3rd Dec 09 | Average... guess it needs some improvement. | |
