A coin magically penetrates a blown balloon.
Coin in Balloon
Preparation
This trick is very simple but does require a quick set up. You will need some balloons from your local party store, a Quarter and practice!
You will need to put one of the coins inside the balloon for your set up. It is very simple and only takes about 3-5 seconds. I would recommend you getting a balloon bigger than the coin and darker so you will not see either the shape when not blown nor the coin's shadow. It is very important to make sure that the spectator does not see the coin in the balloon.
Method
Have some balloons including your gimmicked balloon in your pocket. When ready to do this trick, ask for someone to allow you to borrow a quarter. Once they give you a quarter, take out the balloons and take the gimmick balloon. As you are taking out the balloons, secretly drop the coin in your pocket. Tell the spectator that you are going to attempt the impossible by visually penetrating their coin into a balloon. By this time, you should have your gimmick balloon in one hand and pretend to have their coin in the other hand. Blow the balloon up and hopefully, you will have a dark balloon which will cover up the coin's shadow.
Tie the neck and hold the balloon like holding a baseball. When you hold the balloon with this grasp, the coin should be on your hand so it does not make sound. Tell the spectator, 'Watch! Just watch!'
After saying this line, push your other hand(which should be empty) onto the balloon and act like you are pushing it through. Now here's the convincer...
Push the empty hand onto the balloon and then shake it to make it sound like it has just penetrated and fallen into the balloon. Some advice I give you is to make sure to get a balloon bigger and darker than the coin. I guarantee the spectator will not suspect there is a coin inside the balloon.
Remember to practice, practice, and PRACTICE! You were born to perform.

| Zboy 7th Apr 07 | Quite simple, I will definently be using this. Nice use of already having a pack of borrowed balloons and then taking your own gimmick balloon. The convincer works perfectly even fools myself! Keep up the good work foblozer! | |
| barry2277 7th Apr 07 | yay first comment! i think this is a pretty good trick. the only problem is if the spectator wants to examine the baloon. | |
| Phate 7th Apr 07 | I was going to submit this, but my version was sleightly different: I wasn't going to pick the balloon myself. I would carry about four balloons, and using the magicians choice I would make sure they picked the gimmicked balloon. If you use this, it makes it look more fair, because people might get suspicious if you just pick the balloon yourself, they'll think: "Why would someone walk around with five balloons in his pocket? I know, the one he picked is gimmicked!" But if you let them "pick" the balloon, they'll be certain that it was a free choice, and you couldn't gimmick all the balloons, could you? | |
| t0aster 7th Apr 07 | ... barry2277, what's the problem with handing it out? | |
| slimjim100 7th Apr 07 | Then, you can pop the balloon and return the quarter, yours but thought to be the spectators, to the spectator. you could add several stricks to theis like needle penetrating the balloon and such, and pop it all at once. Great close up trick. | |
| foblozer93 7th Apr 07 | Barry2277: You should still have balloons in your hand including the gimmicked one. If they ask to examine it, create a small misdirection and switch balloons for them to examine. Then put it back in the pile, creat another misdirection, and switch back with the original balloon. Phate: I actually have them pick a balloon. I let them examine it, put it back in the pile, creat a misdirection, and grab the gimmick balloon. | |
| ddustin 7th Apr 07 | You should makesure to say your going to penatrate the coin into the baloon, LATER in the trick or they will want to see the coin and see the empty baloon. | |
| foblozer93 7th Apr 07 | I'm back again :D DDustin: I do not tell them that I will make the coin penetrate the balloon because most of them already figure out what I'm about to do if I show them a solid balloon and a coin. As for checking the balloon, that is covered up when you bring the handful of balloons out. They will not check the coin because I will have them let me borrow one so they know the coin isn't fake ;-) | |
| albinoeskimo 7th Apr 07 | i like this trick, and it's pretty cool b/c i do balloon animals also | |
| Hawk 7th Apr 07 | Nice easy effect for the party season, nice one my friend. | |
| MasterMenalist 7th Apr 07 | good trick but your right it will take alot of pracice to make sure that the coin in toatly invisible in the ballon | |
| muffins 7th Apr 07 | nice trick sounds like a good one. Very convinceing | |
| Tim123 8th Apr 07 | It's a very exellent method but I wish there was a signed coin in ballon. That would be great. Work on your patter or they will spot that you put the coin in your pocket. | |
| Nirvanascorpion 8th Apr 07 | Actually, why dont you use the effect where you just pluck the balloon with the coin in your hand...like..well I cant say lol. Copyright i guess | |
| foblozer93 8th Apr 07 | Tim123: If you want a signed coin, take out balloons, create a misdirection, and stick it inside the balloon. Then just follow the rest of the instructions, have the empty hand, and push the balloon. | |
| Elviskid19 8th Apr 07 | great idea and you can make all the ballons a gimmicked ballon so you can pass the ballons out and have them choose 1 | |
| magic1993 8th Apr 07 | this is a pretty good trick when u preform it in front of little kiddies | |
| nathanielcuri 8th Apr 07 | a quick variation to thsi trick, is to make a signed make on the coin inside the balloon. tell the spectator to sign their coin. once the gimmicked balloon is blown up puch it agains the balloon tight to show their "signed quarter" | |
| acecartwright 10th Apr 07 | this is a good trick to perform at parties. If i have a family member having a birthday, i set it up with the helium balloons and have them pick one using the magicians choice. great job. | |
| lark 11th Apr 07 | Just enough to be shown infront of little chaps. | |
| lilweis33 11th Apr 07 | I'm really going to be using this at parties!!! | |
| TonyGman922 12th Apr 07 | wow good for parties | |
| magianfreak99 12th Apr 07 | good misdirection, i might use this at my next payed poformane! | |
| illusion88 12th Apr 07 | what if the spectator wanted to check the balloon or saw the coin within the balloon? pretty good idea though | |
| Far 13th Apr 07 | pretty good trick. Try haning both of the coins identicaly singed and let the spectator pop the ballon to prove that the coin is really in it. | |
| khorneboy40k 13th Apr 07 | i like this trick! very nice effect. | |
| foylefullback 14th Apr 07 | quie simple, i think older spectators would not really be impressed, but a gud trick for a younger audience | |
| thestarfishkid 16th Apr 07 | Also a good way to do this is to use a PK ring then you dont have to hold onto the coin and it looks more natural | |
| Derrick 16th Apr 07 | it's so simple(in a good way) | |
| foblozer93 16th Apr 07 | thestarfishkid:American coins are not magnetic, unless they are the old fashion kind made by a certain metal back then. illusion88:This is why I recommend you getting a dark balloon so you do not see the coin's shadow. For everyone wanting to know how to do a signed coin in balloon, have them sign the coin you borrow from them, take out the balloons, create a misdirection, and secretly stick it inside their selected balloon. Then just follow the rest of the instructions, have the empty hand, and give the appearance of magically penetrating their signed coin into their balloon. | |
| patri2 17th Apr 07 | What's with all the advice and stuff. Practice Practice Practice? I mean come on! It's not a hard trick! 6/10 though. not bad.(That is a PATRI2 rating). | |
| mrbaseballsam 19th Apr 07 | ok i got 2 helpful hint when doing this. befor dithing coin in pocket perform french drop so they tink it is in ur other hand. Also you dont have to have a dark balloon because u can pinch the quarter at the end of the balloon so they cant see it. | |
| scream 21st Apr 07 | Wow I have fooled evryone of my friends so far | |
| chickenbeefpork 23rd Apr 07 | Neato i have to find an easier way of putting quarter in balloon | |
| jokersk8rfl 1st May 07 | did you come up with this or did someone else tell you | |
| foblozer93 1st May 07 | Jokersk8rfl:This trick was created by me because it would be against the rules for plagarism and copyrighted effects. | |
| tourvader 7th May 07 | Looks great, especially good if you want to one-up the magician at a birthday party. ;) | |
| dummyisdumb 23rd May 07 | pretty good trick, a little suspicious, maybe a little tweaking around w/ the trick would help. | |
| iponeu 9th Jul 07 | i agree with magic 1993 this trick works best with little kids because an older audience is able to guess the way to do it. but the reactions you get from the little kids is amazing. has an incredible effect if you add a little bit of patter that get the kids laughing. | |
| Fx 18th Jul 07 | Shoot, POP that sh**! Watch the coin fall out. The noise will add to the psychological effect of the trick and the coin will fall to the ground. I have audiophobia, htough, so I won't be doing that one. --Fx | |
| foblozer93 19th Jul 07 | Pop it? I said to shake the balloon to sound like it falls into it. I never said anything about popping because Fx, I have a phobia of popping balloons as well. | |
| Taishin 14th Aug 07 | Great trick! ^^ I do believe the coin disappears from your hand a little too early in the trick though. BUT I did think of a fix for that ^^ Lightning Coin Vanish would help out a great deal! Just a thought. Anyways, thanks again for the trick! | |
| marieg 6th Sep 07 | I let the audience look at the ballon after the coin is inside so that they can look at the ballon to make sure that it's not a trick one. Make it look even more amazing. Thanks for the Trick | |
| aperson314 15th Sep 07 | This trick seems like it has a great effect. The only problem will be slipping the original coin in my pocket. | |
| ivandefr 19th Jan 08 | you can also use a magnet in your hand to hold the coin and when your ready to make the coin penetrate the balloon you remove your hand | |
| foblozer93 18th Apr 08 | ivandefr: This requires no magnets at all, the beauty of this effect. All it requires is some decent sleight of hand moves and you're good to go :) | |
| darkrunning 27th Jul 08 | this is a simple and effective trick exept if the spectators want to see the unblown baloon first they would notice its heavier | |
| dragon74 3rd Nov 08 | Great trick and minimal set up! awesome-o! | |
| dinglefritz 12th Nov 08 | I like this trick it should work fine as described . I think the magicians choice for picking the balloon will really help sell it and take the heat off the balloon. | |
| Emblazion2 21st Jun 09 | Pretty nice. Magicians choice is a must here. It looks better and is convincing. Good job though. | |
| magicman1208 30th Jun 09 | This is a nice trick. Simple but effective | |
