The magician fans a deck of cards and invites a spectator to select one without revealing what it is.
The spectator memorizes their card and places it back in the deck. The magician shuffles their card into the deck, losing it completely. The magician then shows the top few cards saying: 'You can see that your card is not on top, in fact it's not even second from the top or anywhere near...'
The magician then shows that the bottom card is not the spectator's card either. The spectator is convinced that their card has been lost in the middle of the deck.
The magician explains that to find the spectator's card, he will need the help of 2 locator cards: the top card and the bottom card.
The magician turns those two cards around, one on top and the other out jogged on the bottom but facing the spectator.
The magician says that these two locator card will 'catch' their card as the magician passes the deck from one hand to the other. The magician then throws the deck into his/her other hand and magically 3 cards remain: The locator cards have sandwiched the spectators chosen card!
