The magician holds a small piece of paper and throws it in the air - only for it to vanish! He then reproduces it from anywhere he wants to.
Paper Vanish
Preparation
1. Lick your thumb, right under your fingernail. Just one little lick will do it.
2. Get a small piece of paper that is between 1.5-2 inches long and about 1cm wide.
3. Place it on your thumb so one end is at the edge of your fingernail and it stretches out toward your hand. This is shown in picture 1. The idea of this is to have the moisture from your mouth hold the piece of paper in place.

Method
1. Make a fist to make the illusion that you are hold in the paper as in picture 2. Your thumb should go inside the fist and stick out a little bit to show the piece of paper.
2. When you have a spectator, tell them to watch closely. Now there are many different ways to perform this. You can improvise or use my ideas.
3. To simply do a throw vanish, quickly snap open your hand with your palm facing the spectator. The thumb should be sticking out too and should be hiding your piece of paper. (Picture 3). It will look like the paper has vanished! Make sure you don't turn your hand and 'flash' the paper so the spectator can see it. One thing I like to add to this step is to pretend to blow it away instead of throwing. It just looks a lot smoother for some reason.
4. To make it reappear, you can do anything you want. The easiest is to reach up to their ear and make a fist again and pull it out. You can also pull it out of a shirt pocket, behind your arm, out of your shoe, out of their shoe... improvise! Just don't pull it out of thin air - they'll figure it out.
5. Another one of my favorite things to do in act like you're flicking the paper into your mouth. Make a disgusting face and pretend to spit it out again, only to just snap your hand back into the fist position.
Note: If you get really good at this trick, also try to 'throw' it up into the air and pretend to watch it fly for a few seconds. Then you can pretend like you caught it in your shirt pocket or something. You can make a whole routine out of this little trick. Have fun with it.

| TomN 22nd Jun 06 | I just find the only problem with that trick is that it is very easy to see the tape because of the light reflecting off of it. Also for this trick you can easily take it off of your thumb for inspection of the paper and your hand. | |
| shnailey 22nd Jun 06 | That's a really amazing trick. I think it fools a lot of people. | |
| dylan 24th Jun 06 | thats a great trick tom thankyou | |
| MoritaNaoki 24th Jun 06 | This is a simple, yet surprisingly effective trick. Some resuable adhesive might be better than water. | |
| magicollie 24th Jun 06 | this is the same as the vanishing cigerrete | |
| markydo 24th Jun 06 | and the toothpick 1 | |
| Aceone 24th Jun 06 | this is a magic trick and like most tricks the secret is simple yet it has a huge impact i think this is a great trick | |
| javad 24th Jun 06 | this is a good trick, but the spectator usually notices its wet.i like the toothpick better but good thinking | |
| shepherdkieran 24th Jun 06 | good trick but how amazeing is it to be able to vaish a small pice of paper think a cigerret sound intresting if i said ill show u a trick ither be vanishing paper or a cigaret which would u chouse | |
| eggplantboy 24th Jun 06 | its a little bit better with the tooth pick on this one. but with this trick it doesnt take long at all to preperate, and normally with the toothpick ppl would ask to see the bac of ur hand. but with this one u can simply pull it out of ur hand and give it to them and show that there is no tape or anything. | |
| mystic 25th Jun 06 | or instead of throwing it u could wave ur hand im front it looks really smooth | |
| abcdefg 25th Jun 06 | i think you could have a match book and lick a match and it will stick to your thumb | |
| joeray 25th Jun 06 | you could also use glue/paste tacky but stronger for heavier objects | |
| prswirve 25th Jun 06 | yeah old trick lol! exactly like the cigarette vanish | |
| fudup 26th Jun 06 | its an ok trick...u shud just buy a raven to make it more impressive | |
| MagicPimp 26th Jun 06 | Well I dont know if I should give YOU the props but this is a good trick. Like everyone else said, this is a trick similar to Criss Angel's trick. Using a toothpick has a much better effect and is great to do after a meal at a restaurant. Plus, dont you think that people will say that you gimmicked the paper or something? Nice variation of the cigarette vanish and toothpick vanish I guess. | |
| nightangel 29th Jun 06 | what i have found is that for the toothpick vanish is to use a small piece of magicians wax its easy to put on and easy to take off | |
| Ocd 21st Jul 06 | I'de prefer the toothpick trick, but this trick is easy and fun to use infront of spectators | |
| slider 18th Aug 06 | very good trick. sometimes the paper falls off | |
| skoolbj 2nd Sep 06 | i like the toothpick one better | |
| TomN 3rd Oct 06 | People never even see that the paper is wet. You barely need any moisture at all to hold the paper there. | |
| slyfero 8th Oct 06 | Good trick, not for a show but maybe just hanging out with some friends. Thankyou for posting | |
| blackstaber2 12th Oct 06 | with toothpicks you can just put it in your mouth after the trick so you don't have to worry about trying to get rid of the paper without the spectator seeing you. Plus toothpicks seem much more convincing that a strip of paper. | |
| ebo9 3rd Nov 06 | i did it to my older brother and he said if i didnt tell him were it went he'd beat me up. of coures i said never and true to his word, he beat me up. he found out how i did it in the end. its a tough life with magic. | |
| lilspin3 11th Nov 06 | the toothpick is better but this one is better if you want to do a quick impromtu trick to someone. | |
| slifra 26th Nov 06 | i got caught once but i still love this trick | |
| Glenn 29th Nov 06 | This is better if you do it with a cigarette or a toothpick. | |
| jnj0595 2nd Dec 06 | aha!!! clever. i think it is alittle bit more clever than spiked coin and d lite. nad thats pretty hard to say. i like the idea. i probably can never have thought of this. its so like i cant beleive i didnt think of this trick. wow its good.and you can do a good trick for kids where you pull it out of there ear. i hope you keep it up. try to make more like this. | |
| alibobwa 5th Dec 06 | yea its a good trick but it is less suspicious if you use a tooth pick a match(card board not wooden) or even a small peice of maltch. just be creative and the audiance will be amazed! | |
| ramii06 10th Jan 07 | i prefer toothpick trick. is the same but with a paper. | |

| blazer 23rd Mar 07 | id seen this trick u can use a cigarette just lick ur thump and put the cigarette on it sticks! | |
| PGVA 24th Mar 07 | Its kinda hard to hide the paper | |
| naveen 29th Mar 07 | This trick will really work if u use a matchstick in place of the paper,it really works well with a matchstick. But you cannot lick it.You must stick it using a tape(brown tape would be invisible.) | |
| miniillusionist 4th Apr 07 | you can also this trick with a toothpick or a match (but use a toothpick it's safer then a matchstick) or about anything that's simler to a toothpick criss angel showed this trick on his halloween special | |
| Tim123 7th Apr 07 | This is still one of my favorite tricks and one of the first one's I learned. All magicians should learn and practice this. I get good reactions with this trick and have never been caught. I agree use a tooth pick less suspicious expacially if its in your mouth fist. | |
| Far 14th May 07 | Saw Criss Angel do this trick with a toothpick. Very easy. | |
| dreamblade77 15th Oct 07 | iv know this trck for a while but i do it with tape and a tooth pick._on the holloween episode of criss angel mind freak. | |
| darkrunning 29th Jul 08 | i know this trick in to other ways with a toothpick where you put tape on ur thumb and with a match where u put spit on top it hold thise is also good if some people know the trick they wonder why because there is no tape or so | |
| dragon74 7th Jul 09 | there should be a way to give 0 stars... | |
| geniegeorge 19th Jul 09 | i do this with a tooth pick. but it's good. | |
| SG1man 28th Jul 09 | Well, its pretty simplistic, but I guess that's the appeal of it. So, overall its pretty cool. | |
| MickeySoume 26th Sep 09 | I wonder if rubber cement or contact cement would stick better than licking? It would not leave the paper wet or residue. | |
| Gazea2 3rd Oct 09 | I use a tooth pick and double sided tape and it works really well. | |
| docwebhead 31st Jan 10 | This works well for a routine to try to rid yourself of paper stuck on your hand. Nice trick! | |
