Professor's Nightmare

The magician shows the audience three ropes of different lengths and hands them out for examination. He then brings the ends of the ropes together in his hands and starts pulling on the ends. The ropes all appear to be the same length. Then the magician bundles the ropes up in his hand and pulls them out of his fist one at a time to show that they are the different lengths again.
