The magician shows an empty tupperware, a quarter, and a playing card. He then seals the lid on the tupperware and places the quarter on top of it. The magician places a playing card on top of the quarter, and slams the top of the tupperware as hard as he/she can. As a result, the quarter immediately penetrates the tupperware. The magician then opens the lid to pull out the quarter from the tupperware.
Quarter Through Tupperware
Video
Preparation
You will need a tupperware with a lid (picture 1), double- sided sticky tape, a playing card, and 2 identical quarters. Set up the trick by putting sticky tape under the lid with a quarter stuck to it (picture 2). Then put sticky tape on the face of the playing card, and make sure it can't be seen easily (picture 3, I colored the tape black so it could be seen more easily).

Method
Start off the trick by taking the lid off the tupperware to show that the tupperware is empty. It is important to not acknowledge the lid because they may want to examine it. (In order to prevent the spectator from examining the lid, have them focus on the tupperware instead). Once you have showed the empty tupperware, seal the lid on it. Then, you can even shake the tupperware to add to the effect, just proving that the tupperware is empty (You may need to experiment with this for a little).
Now, place the quarter on top of the lid. Take the playing card and put that on top of the quarter, making sure the tape is exactly lined up with the quarter. Slam the top of the tupperware with your fist, and the quarter will fall through. What is really happening is that the quarter taped to the bottom of the lid is released, while the quarter that you placed on top of the lid is sticking to the card. Take off the card from on top of the lid and place it on the table. It is very important that as you are doing this you are shaking the tupperware so the sound of the coin in the tupperware overpowers the coin stuck to the card hitting the table.
Open up the lid, pull out the quarter, and let the spectator examine it. While he/she is doing this, remove the quarter from the card and palm it for the remainder of the trick.

| jhanby 3rd Apr 07 | yay first comment, anyway quite a simple trick but if done right can get good reactions. | |
| Zboy 3rd Apr 07 | That is actually quite a nice and simple effect. Nice handling although you can't show yourself clean at the start but it's easy to modify it for the situation | |
| barry2277 3rd Apr 07 | this is actually pretty good. a similar trick where a coin penetrates your hand uses the same method. it can be found at www.goodtricks.net | |
| ahm1993 3rd Apr 07 | oh cool. you need good misdirection for this one! | |
| Hiei3 3rd Apr 07 | I've made a similar effect to this, except you use a cup. But I just never posted it... maybe I will sometime, but maybe not cause it's partly similar. [Hiei3] | |
| patri2 3rd Apr 07 | IT sounds cool. I can't wait to try it. | |
| Jfmets26 3rd Apr 07 | Thanks for the comments guys! | |
| Derrick 3rd Apr 07 | What's the point of the card.Eanyways it's still a good trick | |
| timmaaa 3rd Apr 07 | the card hides the quarter, nice trick | |
| Ocd 3rd Apr 07 | Not bad of a trick, will need lots of practice for this one but it looks extremely effective and could fool almost anybody. That's an awesome tupperware trick! | |
| Gamerfreek11 3rd Apr 07 | very awesome, but what if they ask to view the card? then you might get a problem | |
| magic1993 3rd Apr 07 | i have seen a trick in many variations | |
| abcd1234 3rd Apr 07 | nice royal deck, i love the trick | |
| t0aster 3rd Apr 07 | Can't ever give out the lid! No spectator will believe this for long. | |
| dannagain 3rd Apr 07 | this is ridiculous. how is this trick level1 when the almost identical coin through card deck into glass is something like a level 9? wtf? who decides the level? | |
| Jfmets26 4th Apr 07 | Gamerfreek11 - "very awesome, but what if they ask to view the card? then you might get a problem" Jfmets26 - Read the last line of the trick, "remove the quarter from the card and palm it for the remainder of the trick." | |
| Hawk 4th Apr 07 | Not great, as you ccan not show the lid ! if the lid is part of the trick, ie you are using it, it needs to be shown clean, or the spectators will just think, yes , it is something to do with the lid - as he let us see the container, but not the infamous lid, sorry, and this is not including the tape stuck to the unexaminable card. | |
| keny 4th Apr 07 | i tried this trick but i used my hand not a card | |
| chickenbeefpork 5th Apr 07 | i agree a very simple trick, but america likes to figure things out. thts the only problamo | |
| 195 5th Apr 07 | you can also use a bottle or a can for this trick | |
| Willio 6th Apr 07 | Good trick, but why not just palm the quarter with tape or wax already stuck to it and place it on the lid after it has been examined. This would let you end much cleaner. | |
| millerwood 6th Apr 07 | Instead of just hitting the coin with the card, you show just hit the tupperware with the coin and hide it. | |
| jagsterco2 6th Apr 07 | I tried this trick for a while, and the quarter always falls off the lid with the double stick tape, how do I fix that, other than that I had no problems | |
| epentatonic 7th Apr 07 | I think in order to elimate the spectator wanting to examine the card, i would remove the card all together, and either put the tape on my palm or just improvise by licking it. Slam the top of the upperware with the palm and coming up with the quarter palmed, drop it into a pocket or something. And to take care of the lid problem, do what willio said by placing quarter under lid after they examined it already. Otherwize, bravo. | |
| TeapartyFanatic 7th Apr 07 | it can help if u use slightly used tape on the bottom of the lid. that way, it comes off easier. great effect when done well! | |
| ddustin 7th Apr 07 | It isn't that good, wouldnt it be easier to do a french drop and fake to put the quarter through? | |
| Jfmets26 8th Apr 07 | If you use misdirection, when the spectator is examining the tupperware, you can palm the coin from the card. | |
| mrdrakeboy 8th Apr 07 | Personally, I would forego the tape on the side of the card, then just apply slight pressure to the side of the quarter under the card so it comes up a bit, grab it like in a four-quarter matrix effect, and slide it off into palm as you put the card face-up on the table. | |
| Deceiver 9th Apr 07 | Contrary to what many people have been saying above, this trick is quite visual, albeit a tad suspicious under cover of the card. However, with the right misdirection, this is an excellent trick. | |
| acecartwright 10th Apr 07 | a lot like the coin through bottle. youcould do a sighnedoin by doing a switch of some sortafter smashing it through | |
| ajmagic 11th Apr 07 | I knew this trick but you did a good job A+! | |
| magianfreak99 14th Apr 07 | this trick can work....you need practisa though!I give this trick a B+! | |
| mrbaseballsam 19th Apr 07 | i found that you can show the card clean(except for tape) by sliding it off the tape with your thumb into finger palm. | |
| sasukeuchihashar 28th Apr 07 | a easier way would be simply to palm the coin in the middle of your hand rather then using the double sided tape. though this is harder it would remove any complications you get with the audience wanting to examin the card and findind the tape. | |
| Xeada 4th May 07 | sasuke is right, but i'd rather put the tape on my hand , then drop it into my sleeve when they are examining the tupperware. the tape on the hand alows even more of a natural hand movment.Definatly a quality trick | |
| magicmike74 7th May 07 | Like someone mentioned above,if you allow the spectator to examine the lid, then place the coin already gimmicked, onto the lid as they inspect the tupperware(misdirection),this is a very good trick.THE COIN COULD EVEN BE SIGNED!!! | |
| rubenelyusupov 13th May 07 | i made a similar efect using a defective bomb | |
| leonleon 27th May 07 | If you wan to show the lid in the begining, the you can palm the coin with the tape on it , and then secretly put it on the lid when your putting the lid on the tupperwear. | |
| coreyhammer 3rd Nov 08 | I can think of a couple mods to this. First...magicians wax on your hand and in the lid. It's more invisible than tape and eliminates the need for a card. The coin on the lid then sticks to the wax on your hand while the percussive force of slamming the hand releases the other coin. Misdirection can then be used to pocket the coin in the palm. | |
| Aframestor 17th Mar 09 | You don't have to put the tape on the card, you can pick up the coin and the card together, as done in coin matrix. In this case it will be easier to ditch the coin. | |
| rdy2kll 10th Oct 09 | this is a nice trick to do for guests easy to set up and quick to execute | |
| docwebhead 31st Jan 10 | The right kind of translucent lid will hid a paed quarter but LOOK clear enough to be innocent. Nicely presented! | |
