![]() | When I was 9 years old, a family friend would come over and show me card tricks. She would get me every single time, and I still remember that feeling when she turned over my card. A year later a man who works with my dad gave me a Svengali Deck. I took this deck to school and performed it for people all of the time. To this day people still talk about the time I brought the 'magic deck' to school. Things only started to get serious 2 years ago when my cousin taught me how to perform the Vanishing Toothpick trick taught on Mindfreak. We were in Calgary for Christmas at the time, and on the way back I bought a magic book at the airport. Little did I know, that one purchase was going to change my life. I performed the tricks taught in the book to my friends at school. A few weeks later I saw David Blaine's special Magic Man. This was the turning point, magic was now my life. For the next year I performed at school, and managed to build a reputation. The internet was my learning resource, and I have to admit that I gave in to the Ellusionist hype. During the summer I started to explore the world of magic. I read about old stage magicians, and started to create my own magic. Soon I realized that there was a world of magic beyond Ellusionist, and I decided I would change. I realized that I needed to set myself apart from other magicians. I managed to get a gig at a recreation centre, performing a 15 minute magic show for pre-schoolers. When I went back to school I was excited to show off some of my brand new magic. Things were going well, and I remember feeling that I was the best I could ever be. In November, I was invited to perform at a Christmas Party. This was my second gig. During the next year thing stayed the same for me magicwise. The local magic group had a competition, and I placed second. This was a huge confidence booster for me, and I wanted to see what else I could do. In May I decided I would try to get a restaurant gig, but every restaurant I asked refused. I started to dream about bigger things, about what I would become when I left school. Then came summer again, I performed at every community event I could, and was invited back to perform at the recreation centre again. I finally got the restaurant gig after many months. Magic consumed my life the whole summer, and I loved every minute of it.
The future is yet to come. |
