The spectator selects a card (say, the AS) and is returned to the deck. The magician is confident that the card is at the top of the deck. He flips the top card, but it is revealed to be the 2S, a wrong card. He places the card on the table and jokes around, saying, 'I meant to say the 'second' card, my mistake.' But the next card is the 6D. He places the 6 on the table, next to the 2.
The magician says that he brought some 'insurance' with him. He points out a wristwatch that he is wearing. He claims that this watch can control time, and he can fix his mistakes. For a demonstration, he snaps his fingers, and the second hand on the watch stops moving - even the magician ceases moving and freezes for a brief period. The watch unfreezes, and the magician returns back to motion.
He pulls out the tab on the watch and winds it back 1 minute, around the time the trick began. He gives a snap and flips over the top card of the deck, revealing it to be the 6D. Time has started to reverse itself. The magician then says, 'Now that the 6 is back, the card that I put down just a second ago must be the 2 of Spades.' The magician flips the card on the table and reveals that it is indeed the 2 of Spades. But that leaves the mystery of what the first card the magician placed down was. The magician flips over the remaining card on the table and is shown to be the spectator's chosen card! The deck and the 'time machine' can be freely examined.
