Classic Cup Through Table Trick

Effect

The magician shows a cup and a quarter to the audience. He takes the quarter and places it on a table, The cup is put above the quarter. You tell your audience that you will make the coin pass through the table as if it was not solid. You then grab a nearby napkin and place it over the cup. After, you concentrate on the cup and you lift it up to see the coin still there. Getting frustrated the magician once again places the cup over the quarter and counts aloud to 3. On 3 the napkin is smashed and the cup seemingly vanishes into thin air. The magician takes the cup from under the table and says 'Oops, the cup was supposed to go through the table, not the coin'.

Method

Find a dinner table or any table that is not see-through. Sit down and place the coin on the table, the cup over the coin, and cover this with the napkin. (Make sure the napkin covers the whole cup).

Now act as if you are concentrating on the cup - lift the cup up and show the coin still there. Say 'That's not right' (While saying this line, bring the cup to the edge of the table, let it drop into your lap and bring the napkin back over the coin into position). With the cup in your lap, keep the shape of the cup in the napkin even though the cup is not there. Now smile and say 'I've got the solution'. Count aloud to 3, once at 3 smash the napkin down and reveal that it has disappeared.

Now the next step, bring your hands to your lap and grab the cup without exposing it. Put it under the table and bring it out as if it actually went through. To finish say, 'Oops, The cup was supposed to go through the table, Not the coin'.

Hand everything out for examination. You're clean. Even the table can be examined.
